For students with no prior dance experience, come along to one of our Beginner level classes. Casa de Latino offers three main dance styles: Salsa, Bachata, and Tango Argentine. You can choose to start in a beginner class in any one of these styles. Beginner level classes are designed to give you an introduction to the dance and give you a good foundation for social dancing before moving on to the next level.
If you have previous experience in a dance style, we recommend trying out a level of your choice and seeing how you go. Have a chat with one of our teachers and ask them which level may be suitable for you. Even at a beginner level, we teach a lot of important foundational technique that is useful to practice for higher-level dancers as well, so it is important to have these down solid before participating in higher level classes.
A partner is not required, but always welcome! Our group classes allow you to practice dancing with different partners and is fundamental to your learning!
You should wear comfortable clothes and shoes that will not restrict your movement. Lighter shoes are preferable and avoid rubber soled shoes as they tend to stick to the floor too much. Ladies should wear medium to low heels if possible.
Our classes are taught in a group structure under the guidance of one or two teachers. Step patterns and techniques for the dance style are demonstrated and practiced amongst the group. Depending on the focus, teachers will break down the steps, body movement, lead, follow and styling. Students are required to swap partners regularly to practice lead/follow amongst different partners.
Classes cost $15 each and are only $10 for each additional class on the same night.
Because of the casual nature of our group classes, payment is made right before the class starts. Please arrive before the class start time in order to pay the class fee. If you are late, you will be asked to pay the fee either during or at the end of the class.
Casa de Latino classes are run in a format that teach how to dance, whilst maintaining the fun and social atmosphere that is typical of Club Latin dancing. All figures and step patterns are revised regularly. However, private lessons are available on a casual basis for $77 per lesson. Contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. At a Beginner Level, we recommend you start out with the Beginner Variety Level class. This will enable you to get a taste of the four different dances of Salsa, Bachata and Argentine Tango.. Even past the beginner level, we strongly believe that good dancers emerge from knowing a wide variety of different styles. In order to be a good social dancer, you need to be able to hear and dance to different styles of music. To really understand the characteristics of one dance, you need to understand how it differs from other styles and what sets it apart. Learning multiple styles may sound daunting, but each dance teaches different techniques and movements that will be very beneficial to your overall dancing.
Casa de Latino host monthly dance parties that usually take place at the end of every month! Music is played in the styles of Salsa, Bachata and Tango Argentine, allowing you to dance what you've learned in a social atmosphere! In addition, we also throw in the occasional beats of Cha Cha Cha and Merengue to mix things up!
